Color Palette Generator

Generate designer-quality color palettes in one click. Pick a harmony — analogous, complementary, triadic, monochrome, or random — then lock the colors you love and keep shuffling until the scheme feels right.

Press Space to shuffle. Click any swatch or hex code to copy it. Lock a color to keep it while the rest regenerate.

How to use the color palette generator

  1. Choose a harmony mode. Analogous palettes feel calm, complementary ones pop with contrast, triadic schemes stay balanced and vibrant, monochrome gives you depth from a single hue, and random throws you a wildcard.
  2. Hit generate (or press the spacebar) to roll a fresh five-color palette. Colors are drawn from true color-wheel harmonies, not arbitrary guesses.
  3. Lock the keepers. See a color you love? Hit the lock icon on its swatch and it stays put while the others keep shuffling.
  4. Copy and ship. Click any swatch or hex code to copy it, or grab the whole set as ready-to-paste CSS variables for your project.

How the harmonies work

Every palette starts from a cryptographically random base hue. Analogous picks hues ±20° and ±40° around it for smooth, low-contrast schemes. Complementary pairs the base with its 180° opposite, adding light and dark variants for depth. Triadic spaces three hues 120° apart — the classic vibrant-but-balanced trio. Monochrome keeps one hue and spreads five lightness levels from deep to airy. All colors are computed in HSL and converted to hex, so what you see is mathematically consistent.

Color palette generator FAQ

Each harmony places hues at fixed positions on the color wheel in HSL: analogous sits ±20–40° from the base hue, complementary uses the hue 180° opposite, triadic spaces three hues 120° apart, and monochrome varies only lightness on a single hue. That math is why the results look designed instead of random.
A locked swatch (🔒) is frozen: pressing generate or the spacebar reshuffles every unlocked color but leaves locked ones untouched. Lock one or two favorites, then keep rolling until the rest click into place.
Click the color block or the hex code under it — either copies the hex value to your clipboard. The “Copy CSS” button grabs all five colors at once as CSS variables you can paste straight into a stylesheet.
Yes — every generated palette is yours to use freely, in personal and commercial work alike. There are no licensed assets involved: colors are computed on the fly in your browser, and nothing leaves your device.
